This weekend, I spent some time with family, making and baking goodies and just having a good time.

My mother decided that she wanted to make cookies and candy, so she and I met up at my aunt’s house for fun, food and fantastic memories.

We used a couple of my aunt’s recipes and one or two that my mother found on Pinterest. I was most excited to make the dishpan cookies my aunt makes, which are basically just cookies made in a big dishpan.

We made crockpot candy, potato chip candy, moose tracks, rice crispies, cracker toffee and the cookies I love.

For the majority of the goodies, we basically took snack food and covered it in chocolate, just as, I’m sure, the good Lord intended.

We made jokes about each other and our family. While we were making a delicious mess, we looked through my aunt’s big windows and saw a number of cardinals, male and female.

My aunt said cardinals are a sign that loved ones are visiting you, so we thought about each of the family members we have missed over the year.

Of course, we also joked that the the females were our aunts and mothers who were checking to make sure we were making everything correctly.

Though we made a lot of cookies and candy, we also made jokes, a mess and a lot of memories that I will keep in my heart.

We laughed loudly, talked over each other and discussed the things that make us happy.

At one point, I remember thinking, this is peaceful. I wish everyone would have moments or, really, lifetimes of this.

So, that’s the start of my wishes for you readers this holiday season. We’re basically here at Christmas and the new year is just around the corner, so what better time to start talking about what I want in 2019.

I wish that you have the opportunity to make or bake sweet, delicious things, whether they are for yourself or for others. If they are for you, I wish that you take a second on each bite and savor the taste.

I wish that you have the opportunity to make a mess and enjoy the process of making the mess. Usually, if you do, you’re either making something great or you are just being happy. Really, both of those seem pretty okay to me.

I wish that you get to spend time with your loved ones and make plenty of memories. Never take those moments for granted.

I wish that you have the opportunity to enjoy eating things covered in chocolate. Why would chocolate have been invented if it wasn’t to be enjoyed?

I wish that you get to just sit and look outside, see the birds in the yard and watch cars go by. If they are cardinals, I wish that you remember all the good times with family members long gone.

I wish that you just take a moment to be thankful and joyful for the day, the people in your life and quiet moment.

I wish that you have peace and happiness in the new year.
