Helen Henderson Hildebrand, 67, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 after a courageous fight against cancer.
Helen was born in Enterprise on Sept. 27, 1951 to John Wilbur and Luella Botsford Henderson. She was a graduate of Enterprise High School, the University of Alabama, and earned a master’s degree from Florida State University. Helen worked for many years with Gulf Power Company in Pensacola and was a special education teacher.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel Henderson, and an infant brother, Joseph Adolphus Henderson. She is survived by her sons Timothy Joseph Hildebrand of Pensacola, Fla., and Justin Matthew Hildebrand, his wife Laura, and granddaughter Hannah Grace Hildebrand of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by her sisters, Hilda H. Hagins (Stephen), and Harriet H. Patterson, and brother, John W. Henderson Jr., all of Enterprise, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. She was quick-witted, enjoyed laughing with loved ones and had a marvelous sense of humor – even at the end of her life. She was very supportive of the school activities of her sons and she was especially involved in their Boy Scout Troops as each of them earned their Eagle Scout Award. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Pensacola, Fla. The family wishes to offer gratitude and thanks to all of the many people who provided love, support, and care.
Internment will be held at Enterprise City Cemetery on Saturday, July 6, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family suggests that any donations in memory of Helen may be made to the UAB Gynecological Oncology Department for cancer research (176F Room 10250, 619 19th Street S., Birmingham, AL 35249; https://www.uab.edu/medicine/obgyn/give/ways-to-give).
