It's billed as "The World's Smallest St. Patrick's Day Parade", and if you see it, you'll know why. It has only one marcher and it lasts about 10 minutes.
The city of Enterprise plays host to the one-person event each St. Patrick's Day, with a local citizen of Irish ancestry given the honor of carrying the colors of the Emerald Isle down one block of East College Street, from the Court House, to the town's other unique institution, the Boll Weevil Monument, and back, starting at noon.
Since 1993, the Grand Marshall's name has been kept a secret until the day of the event. This year, it was decided to share the Grand Marshall's name to generate a larger interest, as this is the first year the parade will be held on a Saturday.
Visit Enterprise is proud to announce the Grand Marshall for the 19th Annual World's Smallest St. Patrick's Day Parade, Ms. Marjorie Ann Christina McGarry. Ms. McGarry was selected among tens of applicants, and has been a member of the Enterprise community since 1984. She graduated from Enterprise High School in 1984 and has worked at Alfab, Inc. from 1999 to the present.
As an added bonus to the day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., downtown businesses will have coloring, special sales, themed menus, and much more to offer families who will be joining the parade celebration. Some specific examples include Quality Printing, who will have Leprechaun coloring sheets available for children to color (crayons donated by Po Folks of Enterprise), Milky Moo's will have green ice cream and will be giving a 50% off discount for those children that bring in their coloring sheets from Quality Printing. Regions Bank will have a greeter available for the duration of the parade, and other businesses downtown will have special events for families. JoJo's will have a special sale, as well as Leon's. All About Massage will have an open house to showcase their products. Weevil 101 will be the simulcasting the event live on air with Irish music. Billy Murdock Realty will have their annual reception for invited guests, and Fitness with Natalie will have a public reception. Our Grand Marshall will be throwing beads to the parade goers. The list will continue to grow as we get closer to the event Saturday.
We finish the day with a special Irish drink-tasting menu at the Rawls Restaurant, with a special Irish menu during their business hours.
