Watermelon the star at Farmer's Market

Future Little Miss Coffee County Adalyn Collins, standing, takes her turn in the seed spitting contest with help from Miss Enterprise Jaedyn Forehand. The winner of the seed-spitting contest in the youth category was Ryan Phillips, who reached 14 ft. 10 in. with his seed. The winner in the adult category was Doyle Luschen, who reached 33 ft. 10.5 in. with his seed.

On Saturday, July 1, visitors to the Enterprise Farmer's Market had some watermelon fun during Watermelon Contest Day. Market-goers not only had the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and other products, but they were also able to see how far they could spit a watermelon seed or how fast they could eat a slice of watermelon. Leda Green, a local watermelon carver, also provided tips on how to make the best decoration out of the red and green fruit.
