A Daleville man suspected of an alleged shooting, Feb. 1, on Coffee County Road 651 was put into custody by the Coffee County Sheriff's Department Feb. 6.

Deputies arrested Douglas Wayne Gonyea, 23, of 401 South Woodland Road in Daleville, at the Stop and Go gas station in Daleville at about 6:30 p.m.

Gonyea is charged with the attempted murder of 65-year-old Thomas Haygood.

According to Deputy Chief Ronnie Whitworth, Gonyea was involved in an altercation with Haygood at a residence on Coffee County Road 651. When Haygood turned to walk away, Gonyea allegedly shot him in the back with a pistol.

Haygood was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Gonyea is scheduled make his initial appearance in court Feb. 8.
