People across the country are getting a peek at Enterprise’s own Milky Moos ice cream by being featured in the July-August issue of Food Network Magazine.
Milky Moos’ “Boll Weevil Special” ice cream flavor is featured in the article “50 States, 50 Ice Cream Treats.”
The ice cream flavor is a peanut lover’s dream and represents the history associated with Enterprise in how the area flourished after switching from cotton crops to peanut crops.
Owner Lisa Allen Gray said the Boll Weevil Special was selected to be in the magazine after being submitted by Montgomery’s River Region Living Magazine editor Darlene Hutchinson Biehle.
Biehle was working on her own article about Milky Moos and the Boll Weevil Special when she was approached for submissions for the Food Network Magazine article.
The flavor includes peanut butter flavored ice cream, peanuts, peanut butter chips and cookies that represent dirt and marshmallows that represent the cotton.
“It’s really incredible to have something representing the monument in a national magazine,” Gray said.
Gray said it was through the suggestion of a customer eight years ago that led her to to create the peanut-inspired treat.
“It’s truly incredible to be recognized for something that you love to do,” Gray said. “I still can’t even believe that it’s happened. It’s just a real honor.”
The flavor will be in the both the Enterprise and Troy Milky Moos locations during July and August.
Gray said quite a few customers have already visited her store wanting to try the flavor after seeing it in the magazine.
Regular Milky Moos customers have also visited to offer their congratulations on being in the magazine.
“The support that Milky Moos has had from the start from the community has been incredible and I’m so grateful for it,” Gray said. “I’m surrounded by good people.”
