A former “Coach of the Year” has been named assistant principal at Enterprise High School.
Matthew Ream was formally named to the post at the Enterprise Board of Education meeting June 30.
Ream fills the assistant principal slot vacated by Stan Sauls upon his promotion June 11 to the EHS principal position after the May 26 departure of Brent Harrrison to take over as principal at Saraland High School.
Ream comes to Enterprise most recently from Rehobeth Middle School where he has served as assistant principal since 2018.
Raised in Wicksburg, Ream graduated from Wicksburg High School in 1999 after playing on the football and baseball teams.
After attending Enterprise State Junior College, Ream transferred to Auburn University-Montgomery where he graduated in 2005.
After graduation from college, Ream was named Head Baseball Coach at Pike Liberal Arts School in Troy.
After one season at Pike Liberal, Ream was hired to head the baseball program at Hooper Academy in Montgomery, leading them to the playoffs for the first time in six years.
In 2007 Ream began a 13-year journey in Rehobeth teaching physical education and coaching baseball. In 2014 he was named the Class 5A State Baseball “Coach of the Year.”
Earning a first master’s degree in Physical Education in 2015, Ream earned a second master’s degree in 2017 in Educational Leadership.
Ream said that after the 2017 season, he relinquished his baseball duties in order to spend more time with his three children and to complete his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, which he did in August 2017.
In 2018, Ream was named assistant principal at Rehobeth Middle School where he served until being named EHS assistant principal June 30.
“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Ream said after the board meeting. “I look forward to working with everyone from Enterprise.”
