A high-coverage of showers and thunderstorms causing heavy rainfall is expected over the next several days, according to a press release from the Coffee County EMA.
The heaviest rainfall is expected July 10, 11 and possibly July 12, according to the release.
The coverage is being caused by a possible tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico, which is also causing increased surf heights and an elevated risk for rip currents along the coast, according to the release.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee estimates the low pressure area has a 70 percent chance for tropical development in the next 48 hours and 80 percent chance over the next five days.
The NWS also predicts the area of low pressure will move westward away from the tri-state area throughout the week.
