The New Brockton Town Council voted to appoint current New Brockton Acting Police Chief Dale Grimes to the position of the town’s police chief at its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 5.
Grimes was appointed acting police chief in May after the late Jimmy Duke had to take a leave of absence due to medical reasons.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve New Brockton again,” Grimes said at the time. “This means a great deal to me. Thank you so much.”
After Duke’s passing in June, the council spoke over various work sessions on how to best fill the position.
The council agreed that it would like to both look at the resumes of any officers in New Brockton that would want to fill the position as well as look at outside applications before making an appointment.
The council unanimously approved Grimes’ appointment at the meeting.
The next New Brockton Town Council work session will be Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at New Brockton Town Hall. The session is open to the public.
