Hurricane Dorian not likely to affect Coffee County

A slide from the National Weather Service.

Hurricane Dorian has a low chance of affecting Coffee County, according to an updated release from the Coffee County EMA.

The chance for tropical storm force winds has dropped below five percent and no rain from the storm is currently projected to affect the area, according to the release.

The hurricane is expected to make its eventual turn north beginning late Sept. 1, but a slower turn north could result in further affects westward. This would increase the area’s chance to be impacted, according to the release.

If any tropical storm force winds were to occur, they could begin as early as Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to the release.

Hurricane Dorian is currently a Category 5 hurricane with max sustained winds of 185 mph, according to the release.
