Possible tropical storm force winds ahead

A slide from the National Weather Service.

Coffee County has a 20 percent chance of tropical storm force winds, which are winds 39 mph or higher, for the next 5 days, according to a press release from the Coffee County EMA.

According to the release, while the winds could impact the area Sunday night, Sept. 1, the most likely time for the area to experience these winds is Monday, Sept. 2.

While it is known that Hurricane Dorian will be a major hurricane at landfall, any more information regarding the impacts is uncertain, according to the release.

If the hurricane takes a northeastern turn, the impacts for the area will be reduced; however, if the hurricane take a southwestern turn the impacts could be greater, according to the release.

The CC EMA noted that Florida has declared a State of Emergency for the upcoming hurricane.

The Sun will continue to post updates as we receive them from the CC EMA office.
