Fort Rucker officials hosted a "Welcome Home Ceremony and Monument Dedication" Friday, Oct. 9 for The Bird Dog Association of America. The monument honors all 11 units and hundreds of soldiers and pilots who served in those units. Bird Dog pilots flew Cessna L-19/O1 Bird Dogs were airplanes flown by Army, Air Force and Marine pilots from 1950 to 1974.  The Bird Dog troops were heavily used in Vietnam for reconnaissance, target acquisition, artillery adjustment, radio relay, convoy escort and the forward air control of tactical aircraft.
