What do you get when 12 rednecks meet “Survivor?” Country Music Television’s newest reality show, “Redneck Island.”
A Wiregrass man is competing in the “Survivor”-type reality TV show, where 12 rednecks are stranded on a remote island and compete to find out who is the “reddest.”
Kevin “Bobo” Floyd of Pinckard is one of the stars of “Redneck Island,” which premiered at 9 p.m. Saturday and will air weekly on CMT. The local man, who has lived his entire life on the same land, said the show is hilarious.
Six men and six women will be split up into two teams, competing against one another for a chance to win $100,000. The challenges are fun and make fun of everything redneck, including eating spam … and lots of it, according to Floyd.
Although he can’t reveal any details about future episodes, the first episode involved the two teams competing to win a golden port-a-potty – a luxurious outhouse.
Floyd got involved in the show after his wife Cheryl and her friend posted his picture and profile up on realitywanted.com, a social network devoted to casting reality shows. Three years later, Floyd received a call from CMT asking if he would be interested in the show.
“It was just seeing if I can do it and after four or five days, you know if you can,” he said. “It was a fun time. It was just an adventure, as I like to call it.”
