Daleville’s Kentayvis Valrie showed off his speed qualifying for the state meet in the 400-meter and 200-meter dash individually, as well as a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that qualified.

The Daleville High School track and field team traveled to Brewton to take part in the Class 2A, Section 1 Sectional Meet on April 26 and 10 Warhawks and Lady Hawk athletes qualified for the state meet.

In addition to the 10 qualifiers, two Warhawks earned first place finishes in their events.

Kentayvis Valrie – also a star on the football and basketball teams – earned a first place finish in the boys 400-meter dash and also second place in the boys 200-meter dash. He qualified for the state meet in both events.

Valrie was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that took home second place at sectionals and earned a spot in the state meet. Joining Valrie was Kahenti Terry, fellow basketball star Shemar Dixon and fellow football star Jalen White. Originally, Sincere McKenzie was a part of the 4x100 team that qualified for sectionals, but due to an injured ankle he was unable to compete.

Gabe Elrod – also a football star for the Warhawks – earned a first place finish in the boys discus throw to qualify for the state meet for the second consecutive season.

Jaylin Smith finished in fifth place in the 3200-meter run and also sixth in the 1600-meter run. According to Daleville track coach Robert McCall, the Warhawks are still awaiting word from the AHSAA on whether Smith will end up qualifying as a wild card in the state meet.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team – which consists of Kamaria Goldsmith, Rickia Thomas, Elxius Joiner and La’Jasha Fils Aime- took fourth place at sections and also earned themselves a spot in the state meet.

“In all, our little team of 11 took home four medals and 10 qualified for the sate meet,” McCall happily said. “Go Warhawks!”
