The Daleville High School track and field team traveled to Cullman May 3-4 for the Class 1A-3A State Meet and two Warhawk athletes took home state championships at the event.
Both Gabe Elrod and Kentayvis Valrie won state championships at the event with Valrie walking away with the boys 400-meter dash crown and Elrod earning the discus crown.
Valrie finished in first place in the 400-meter dash with a blistering time of 49.97, while Elrod broke his own school and personal record of 152-feet-7-inches in the boys discus throw to take first place.
Both Elrod and Valrie were star seniors on the Daleville football team in 2018 with Elrod earning Elite 11 Defensive Player of the Year honors. Valrie was also a basketball star for Daleville and holds a number of basketball scholarship offers currently.
Elrod and Valrie’s football teammate Jalen White also had a nice showing at the event with an 11th place finish in the boys 100-meter dash and an 18th place finish in the boys 400-meter dash.
Valrie and White were joined by fellow basketball star Shemar Dixon and Kahenti Terry on the boys 4x100-meter relay team to take sixth place in the event.
The girls 4x100-meter relay team took ninth place.
