NB Daleville

The Daleville JV Warhawks picked up a 14-6 win over the New Brockton JV Gamecocks in Daleville on Aug. 31 to kickoff the 2020 season.

Daleville took a 6-0 lead just before halftime after quarterback Omarion Pinckney scored on a 3-yard touchdown with just two seconds remaining in the second quarter. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful.

The Warhawks extended the lead after Ja’veon McLeod scored on a 43-yard touchdown run with 6:44 remaining in the third quarter. D’Covan Mathews converted the two-point attempt to extend the Daleville lead to 14-0.

New Brockton answered when quarterback Baylon Foster scored on a 7-yard scamper with just 46 seconds left in the third quarter. After a failed two-point try, Daleville still led 14-6.

Neither side was able to find the end zone again in the fourth quarter and one final Gamecock drive was snuffed out by a Mathews interception.

Daleville was led by Pinckney with 85 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushing attempts, while McLeod added 71 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Mathews earned two interceptions on defense and also carried the ball 11 times for 32 yards and a two-point conversion. Daleville rolled up 207 total yards, all of which came on the ground.

New Brockton was led by Logan McCoy on the ground with 41 yards on seven carries. Foster rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown on five carries. He also completed 1-of-4 passes for 20 yards and an interception. New Brockton totaled 128 yards of offense with 108 yards rushing.

Defensively, McCoy led the way with 10 tackles, while Aaron Watson had 8.5 tackles and three tackles-for-loss.

New Brockton and Daleville will meet again on Sept. 14 in Daleville at 6 p.m.
