Mary Catherine Dulaney is the 2020 Distinguished Young Woman of Dale County.

The Houston Academy senior was chosen after a program held Oct. 13 in Ozark. Dulaney also won the “Be Your Best Self”s essay, fitness, talent and self expression awards for a total scholarship award of $3,100.

Participants for the title were evaluated by a panel of evaluators in categories that included scholastic, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression.

The first runner up is Katie Ann Mixon, a senior at G.W. Long High School in Skipperville, who also was the winner of the Spirit of Dale County Award for a total scholarship award of $1,300.

Joanna Paris, a senior at Carroll High School in Ozark, was the scholastic category winner for a total scholarship award of $250.

Other participants were Elizabeth Schisler and Ashunti Creech.

Distinguished Young Woman is a program that combines the chance to win college scholarships with a program that offers life skills workshops that include interviewing, public speaking and self-confidence building.
