A runoff for one Level Plains City council seat is set for Oct. 6
There will be a runoff between Thomas Bury and Frank Carbone for the Council Place 2 seat. Bury earned 115 votes to Carbone’s 63 votes. James L. Maxey Jr. earned 61 votes.
Twenty-nine provisional ballots were counted at the Level Plains Council special called vote canvassing meeting held Sept. 1 at noon at the Level Plains Community Center.
Of the 37 provisional ballots cast, 29 were authenticated by the Dale County Voter Registrar and returned to Level Plains to be counted.
Final certification and acceptance of the results was held Sept. 1 at noon.
Ronnie Thompson is the winner of the Level Plains mayoral race with 176 votes to J.R. Cambron’s 77 votes. Thompson will fill the seat being vacated by Level Plains Mayor Bruce Grantham, who opted not to run for election again.
For Level Plains City Council Place 1, Gary McDaniel defeated Peter J. Willingham with 124 votes to Willingham’s 115 votes.
In Level Plains Place 3, Melinda Ready Achman was the council seat winner with 150 votes to challenger Jordan Despres’ 94 votes.
Philip Waters is the winner of Level Plains City Council Place 4 with 137 votes to Randall Graham’s 111 votes.
Level Plains Council Place 5 incumbent Gregory Eldridge defeated Councilman James Bullinger with 133 votes to Bullinger’s 113 votes.
Because the runoff election is being held at the Level Plains Community Center Oct. 6, the city council voted to move the scheduled 6 p.m. council meeting to the city hall.
The council also voted to move the Nov. 3 council meeting to the city hall because the general election will be held that day in the community center.
The next meeting of the Level Plains City Council is Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Community Center. The meeting is open to the public.
